Position Title:             NIGHT MERCHANDISING MANAGER

Compensation:           Starting at $50,000 (Based on experience)

All our stores have a wide selection of brands with the latest products in the market including a large selection of power tools, accessories and hardware at competitive prices. The Night Manager is fundamental to the successful operations of Summit Tools. With experience within the retail and/or hardware industry, the role is responsible for receiving merchandise, transferring products from warehouse to store front, stock and display merchandise using skillful, organized and customer enticing strategies. The Night Manager must also ensure clear display, and accuracy, of all in-store sales tags. Leading by example, the Night Manager effectively demonstrates and oversees adherence to store presentation standards (including cleanliness) and effective stocking practices.

With a structured and process driven approach, the successful incumbent will provide strong leadership and guidance for a team of 8 staff to work collaboratively to meet and exceed daily operational requirements. This role is also responsible for inventory management as well as managing, training and coaching employees to maintain top performance.


  • Ensure merchandise is fully stocked accurately in designated store areas and inventory levels are regularly monitored
  • Maintain a safe work environment and favourable culture in order to attract and retain employees to foster a strong spirit of teamwork and collaboration
  • Merchandise sales tags are accurately and clearly displayed (reflective of promotions)
  • Make sure store presentation and cleanliness are aligned with company policy
  • Quick and efficient receiving and stocking practices upon stock arrival to the warehouse
  • Ensure department is staffed and scheduled adequately at all times
  • Manage, train and coach employees to maintain top performance

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of tactful merchandising experience (front end retail and back end warehouse)
  • Minimum 2 years of supervising 8 employees or more
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated/self-directed, with an ability to work independently using sound judgment, logical reasoning skills, and intuition
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
  • Must have completed minimum Grade 12; continued education in leadership/management/business administration would be an asset
  • Proven organizational ability with ability to manage multiple tasks and have proven time management and prioritization skills
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, with an emphasis on exceptional quality of work
  • Required to lead by example and do what is necessary to complete tasks and initiatives
  • Extended periods of time spent on your feet, walking throughout the warehouse and store
  • Repeating certain activities, including lifting, pulling and pushing up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Working under tight deadlines
  • Travel regularly to attend: monthly manager meetings, relevant tool workshops, industry trade shows, or relevant educational sessions
  • Completion of a criminal record check
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and must be able to work Saturdays
  • Must have a sense of ownership and accountability for warehouse, inventory and store results
  • Must be able to deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a professional and timely manner
  • Knowledge of retail tool industry best practices, protocols, and procedures
  • Flexible, honest, acting in all situations with professionalism and integrity
  • Professional with a positive, proactive ‘can-do’ and ‘solutions oriented’ attitude and friendly, pleasant personality
  • Strong ability to receive and apply constructive feedback

The position entails working 40 hours, 5 days, with a split weekend. Training will take place during daytime business hours. Following training, the normal hours of work for this position are from 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
