POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer position is critical to delivering on the overall success Summit Tools. Using strong interpersonal and communication skills, the Buyer is outgoing and profit driven when reaching out to build strategic vendor partnerships and negotiating terms for product purchases. With minimal supervision, the Buyer thinks advantageously and takes into account several considerations before making purchase commitments.

By way of a strong attention to detail, the Sr. Buyer is consistently reviewing and actively involved with marketing initiatives (weekly, monthly, and promotional event flyers) by identifying products for promotional consideration and with strategic placement of products in flyers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate promotional campaigns with profitable product lines to maximize sales
  • Research and prepare, prior to engaging in negotiations with vendors (anticipate costs, shipping times, volume price breaks, competitor pricing, etc.)
  • Regularly review and react accordingly from inferences drawn from the Vendor Performance Report
  • Ensure stores are adequately stocked with relevant products prior to promotional advertising
  • Strategically select and promote highly profitable product lines
  • Place top revenue items strategically throughout marketing flyers
  • Research competitors pricing and remain competitive with marketing initiatives
  • Provide effective leadership, coaching and development for all junior team members
  • Proactively reach out and build strong strategic relationships cross functionally across the organization
  • Required to lead by example and do what is necessary to complete tasks and initiatives
  • Ongoing learning and application of knowledge as it relates to specific product lines
  • Working under tight deadlines
  • Using sound judgement and discretion to drive sales and marketing initiatives
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to the U.S. and Quebec for training purposes
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of buying experience (within the power tool industry is an asset)
  • Minimum 2 years of developing and writing flyer advertisements
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field; specialized education with Supply Chain Management would be an asset
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational ability and able to handle confidential and time sensitive material
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated/self-directed, with an ability to work independently using sound judgment, and logical reasoning skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have great time management prioritization skills
  • Must have strong working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Buying experience in the Hardware or Tool industry would be an asset
  • Experience and understanding of Supply Chain, Distribution, and Retail Sales would be an asset
  • Completion of a criminal record check
  • Must have exceptional negotiation skills
  • Must be able to deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a professional and timely manner
  • Flexible, honest, acting in all situations with professionalism and integrity
  • Must be very detail oriented
  • Professional with a positive, proactive ‘can-do’ and ‘solutions oriented’ attitude
